Self Care: Little Wins We Can All Start Doing

Hands up if you can remember the last time you did something for you. Struggling? Us too. Having a bubble bath, doing a face mask and exercising are things most of us think of when it comes to mindfulness. But this Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re looking at the little wins you can start doing each day to practice self-care with the help of @makedaisychains amazing illustrations…

With work, the gym, family, friends and S.O’s, it can be hard to find time to fit everyone in, let alone ourselves. The result? We berate ourselves for not getting through our to-do lists and end up feeling frazzled. You should’ve gone to the gym. You shouldn’t have eaten that. You talk to yourself more than anyone in the world. Be kind.

Pressing the pause button on our schedules is essential. Be selfish when it comes to setting aside time for you and take care of yourself. Take a few minutes out of your day and make a cuppa. Listen to a podcast, write down what you’re grateful for, do some meditation. It’s all about the little things.

Our diaries are filled with after work drinks, brunches, birthdays – the list goes on. When you get home late, the last thing you want to be doing is preparing breakfast and lunch for the following day, right? Try batch cooking meals on a Sunday night to avoid those last-minute meal deal runs.

Fact: there’s no better feeling than getting into bed with fresh sheets. Go all out and treat yourself to the fancy bottle of fabric conditioner and create a super snug setting, perfect for some sleep meditation to help you drift off…

Good skincare and body care routines are sacred - especially once you start seeing results. Pop on some candles and savour those ten minutes of bliss each night.

PSA: It’s okay not to be okay. Sometimes you just need to let it out. Whether you put on a sad playlist, film or just call mum. Besides, the bad days are there to make us appreciate the good ones.

They’re the chores we stress over week in, week out and mostly (read always) put end up putting them off. Don’t give yourself a hard time if you don’t get to them and when you do, make sure you feel good about it.

Nobody wants to be the party pooper who bails on after work drinks or dinner plans with friends but sometimes it’s necessary. Go to bed at 9pm. Have a duvet day. Don’t set an alarm. We all need to reset.
