Islanders At Home: Doing Good Special

Islanders At Home: Doing Good Special
For Islanders, extra time at home means extra time to do good in their community. We don’t know about you, but it’s easy to feel helpless in this pandemic but by volunteering our time and energy we can all make a difference. Whether that is volunteering at your local food bank or leaving a neighbour a thoughtful care package, every little helps. Community spirit is what will keep us going and these #IslandersAtHome wasted no time getting stuck in! Prepare to get inspired…
Forget lockdown hair hassle

If a lockdown haircut feels like too much hassle, why not shave it off and donate to charity? Take a leaf out of Tom and Sinead’s book and shave your hair off for good causes. Collectively they’ve raised £1500 for their chosen charities so far, the NHS for Tom and Mind for Sinead. Hopefully hairdressers will be open by the time it grows back!

Get crafty

If you’re a whizz on a sewing machine get crafty for your community. Florence and Katie have been busy making masks and headbands for the NHS and friends & family. PPE is essential to keep frontline workers safe so use your creative skills to do good!

Cook up a storm

We all know that food is fuel but it’s also a great way to show appreciation. Samir Patel and his wife have donated 100 boxes of freshly cooked meals to their local frontline staff to say ‘thank you’ for working day and night for us all. If you’re more of a baker, follow Fiona Griffin’s lead and show your appreciation for essential workers with all the sweet treats.

Go the distance
Your daily exercise can easily become a great fundraising opportunity. Whether you run 5k and donate £5 or amp it up like Danielle and run 50k over a week long period raising £400, you’re amazing. Every little helps so get fit and do good by going the distance.

Birthday drinks

If you’re celebrating your birthday in lockdown we’re sorry. It’s definitely not what you imagined it would be but why not turn it into a positive like Wendy? Instead of the usual birthday celebrations, Wendy asked her friends to buy her a virtual birthday drink via Facebook for the NHS charities. She’s raised over £300 so far!

Better together

Social distancing can’t stop community spirit even if we can’t physically be together. Get the group chat on board and help raise money for charity as a team. Our Glasgow Argyle St store have raised over £1000 so far for Place2Be by challenging themselves to climb the top 100 Scottish Munro mountains in two weeks by recording their steps. Teamwork makes the dream work!

We’re so proud of our #IslandersAtHome and how they’re dedicating their energy to making a difference to people’s lives. Feeling inspired? We definitely are! Stay tuned for updates on how you can get involved.
