10 Kick Ass Female Moments

10 Kick Ass Female Moments | International Women’s Day

Thanks to the likes of #TimesUp and #MeToo movements, the past year has been pretty amazing for women empowerment. The fact that Wonder Woman is still the highest grossing superhero film proves that we are, in fact, superheroes. So this International Women’s Day, we’re taking a look back over the past year or so to highlight the kick ass women who inspire us every day…

Michelle Obama

The former FLOTUS released her memoir Becoming last year. We didn’t think it was possible to love her more than we already did but she gives us a complete insight into her world, from her humble roots in the South Side to being married to the President, proving once again that she’s a boss lady in her own right.

Cardi B

2018 was Cardi’s year and she’s showing no signs of stopping in 2019 either. Breaking the Guinness World Record for most Billboard US Hot 100 entries, she had 13 tracks on there at once – no biggie. She also played Coachella pregnant and is our go-to for hilarious Instagram rants. We love you Cardi.

Jameela Jamil

Last year, Jameela posted what was meant to be just another IG story. Instead, it turned into an entire movement in an attempt to change the way the media values women. ‘I Weigh’ now has over 396k followers and provides us with body positivity inspo as well as some pretty funny memes.

Emma Gonzales

After the Parkland shootings last February, Emma gave a powerful speech at a gun control rally, which, in turn, started the March for Our Lives movement. Now an activist in her own right, she’s got over 1.6 million Twitter followers supporting the cause.

Beyoncé

Headlining Coachella is a pretty big deal. Being the first black woman to do so? Even bigger. Queen Bey played a 27 song set with not one but five outfit changes -which is STILL the most watched live streamed performance with 41 million views.

Sandra Oh

Sandra Oh is making history – and showing no signs of stopping. The first Asian actress to be nominated for an Emmy, she hosted the Golden Globes this year alongside Andy Samberg and won Best Actress for her role in Killing Eve, it’s safe to say she’s Killing it.

Naomi Osaka

Wining the U.S Open is no mean feat. Naomi Osaka smashed it, and was the first athlete representing Japan to win a Grand Slam Final. Not only that, she’s the current No.1 in the Women’s Tennis Association rankings as of last month and is just 21 years old.

Duchess of Sussex

Despite being constantly being under the media’s scrutiny for “breaking royal protocol” and pitted against sister-in-law, Kate, the Duchess of Sussex remains a hero in her own right. An ambassador for World Vision, she’s no stranger to speaking out on feminism and being a woman of colour.

Lady Gaga

Gaga has always been a queen in our eyes and her break into movie stardom in A Star Is Born only cemented that. Winning Best Original Song at this year’s Oscars, her acceptance speech was all about never giving up on your dreams and has spoken candidly about sexual assault and mental health.

Serena Williams

Serena Williams knows a thing or two about setting (and breaking) records. From being a kick ass tennis player and Nike ambassador to embracing motherhood (we live for those IG posts) and speaking up on sexism, she’s a legend on and off the court.
